A GUIDE to midlife Prosperity:
How To Become And Stay Financially, Mentally, Emotionally And Spiritually Stable In Your Midlife
Prosperity in midlife is not just about money.
It’s about building a life that reflects your values, wisdom, and sense of purpose.
Key areas to focus on:
• Financial security & smart investments
• Purpose-driven work & entrepreneurship
• Leveraging your midlife wisdom
• Creating multiple income streams
If you’re ready to explore midlife prosperity in depth, this guide will walk you through each of these areas with clarity and practical insight.
You’ve still got half your whole life ahead of you, and you probably have more reasons now than ever to get motivated.
What does ‘prosperity’ look like to you?
Does it involve financial stability, happiness, or spiritual wellness? For most people, finding true prosperity includes all of this, with each complementing the others.
In this guide to midlife prosperity, we’re diving into every aspect, exploring what prosperity looks like in middle age, and sharing helpful advice on how to get there.
"Prosperity is not a destination, it's a journey of continuous growth and self-discovery."
Life is complicated, and its complexities often intensify during our mid-lives.
This is a period where many people are still climbing the career ladder.
They might have dependents, both younger and older, relying on them for unpaid care work.
They may even be trying to work through marital problems, and doing all of the above while going through menopause.
So no, you’re not losing your mind! Times are hard. But it’s not all doom and gloom, and midlife prosperity IS achievable.
You just have to learn to balance everything and still find time for your own freedom and wellness. But what does this involve?
To find happiness and stability in your midlife, it’s essential to factor in every area that potentially needs work.
These are the pillars of prosperity, and like any building, a missing or weak pillar will place extra stress on the others holding it up.
Just like how your money problems might start straining your relationships, or your lack of free time will hinder your performance at work.

The pillars of prosperity:
These are the foundations holding up the temple that is your life.
It may require a little renovation, but we’re about to make you a fabulous architect!
While there is some degree of truth in ‘money can’t buy happiness’, money problems are one of the top factors of depression and stress, especially in midlife.
If you don’t already, it’s time to start believing that you deserve to reach your financial goals, no matter how distant they feel right now. Striving for financial prosperity isn’t greed – it’s anything but.
Your quality of life will improve when you find financial stability, and you’ll have more time, love, and resources to share with those around you.
Hell no!
If anything, your midlife offers you the perfect opportunity to reach your financial goals.
You’ve still got half your whole life ahead of you, and you probably have more reasons now than ever to get motivated.
This might surprise you, but being 50+ is actually the best time to start a business. Think about it:
As Matshona Dhliwayo once said, ‘a seed today is a forest tomorrow’. Take this as a sign to finally start that business you’ve been dreaming about for years!
Even if you don’t want to start a full-time business, there are plenty of alternative income streams to explore, including:
Before you can set any financial goals, it’s essential to understand your everyday overheads.
We’re often hit by unexpected costs that can eat into what we’d usually consider disposable income (like the dreaded TV licence!).
Creating a spreadsheet to plan and review your finances can help you keep track of everything and ensure you aren’t leaking money unnecessarily.
Simply having a clear overview of your monthly spending can help you reduce costs!
When factoring in your basic financial needs, it’s important to assign some spending for things that you don’t actually need, but that life wouldn’t be very fun without.
So you should definitely allocate a monthly budget for things like socialising, self-care/beauty treatments, and dining out.
Want to start budgeting properly and finally start planning your financial freedom, but don’t know where to begin? I have just the thing for you!
The Financial Freedom Formula by Penelope Jane Smith – this small but mighty e-book shares with you the steps to becoming financially free so that you aren’t reliant on a job, a partner, or anything else for money.
It’s an easy-to-understand guide that shares practical tips you can start actioning right away, even if you’re not the spreadsheet type!
This book is bite-sized and super easy to read, with a wealth of practical advice. If you’re looking to start taking control of your finances in midlife, there’s really no excuse not to read it!

As the saying goes, ‘your health is your wealth’, so it’s essential to take care of your body if you wish to lead a prosperous midlife.
Middle age is a time when many of us start to slow down.
Sure, you might have a few more wrinkles, and your body might not recover as well from exercise or injury.
But this isn’t an excuse to give it up altogether. In fact, it’s the very reason you should keep going.
When we stop using our bodies to their full potential, that’s when things start to get ‘rusty’ and weak.
That’s not to say you should start training for a midlife triathlon! But it is important to be more mindful with your exercise, and perhaps choose activities or sports that aren’t as hard-hitting on your muscles or joints.
When we go through menopause, we become susceptible to osteoporosis, so strength and resistance-based exercises that increase bone density and encourage muscle growth are key.

Best cardio-based exercises for middle-aged women:
It’s also important to integrate some form of stretching, mobility, and flexibility exercises into your regime.
Yoga offers a fantastic mix of stretching, cardio, and resistance-based exercise, while also improving breath control and mindfulness.
Keep in mind that you also don’t need an expensive gym membership to get moving. You’d be surprised how much everyday activities like gardening, DIY, and lifting groceries can work your body.
The most important thing is to ensure you don’t lead a sedentary lifestyle!
"Prosperity is not just having things. It is the consciousness that attracts things. Prosperity is a way of living and thinking, and not just money or things” - Eric Butterworth
When many people think of prosperity, they think of wealth and happiness.
But these things place too much emphasis on the destination of prosperity when in reality, prosperity is a journey.
Happiness is a choice and wealth is subjective, and both are affected by the choices we make on a daily basis and our overall approach to life.
Practising spirituality is one of the simplest, yet most effective ways to achieve prosperity in midlife, leading to better mental health and happiness.
Spirituality can have transformative benefits for the mind, body, and soul.
Therefore, it’s never too late to start practising, even if you’ve never engaged with it before.
Here are some of the best spirituality practices to get into in middle age:
Priming is all about setting yourself up for success at the beginning of each day. It’s an eight-step exercise that can help energise you first thing in the morning and keep you motivated to reach your goals.
Priming can have truly transformative benefits on your everyday mentality and habits and has been psychologically proven to improve your attitude towards life.
A wisdom shared by teacher, mystic and award-winning poet, Richard Rudd, the Gene Keys approach aims to develop our humility in order to lead a happier, more prosperous life.
According to genekeys.com, the four cornerstones of the Gene Keys approach are:
Many people during middle age feel as if they have lost their purpose in life, leading to the so-called ‘midlife crisis’.
But finding purpose and rediscovering your uniqueness in your midlife isn’t complicated.
The Human Design System helps you delve deep into your own psychology, allowing you to rediscover, honour, and cherish your uniqueness to lead a more fulfilling life.
The system draws out a map of your unique genetic design, including both the conscious and unconscious aspects of yourself.
It is a fantastic exercise to do if you are lacking self-love in middle age or you are struggling to find purpose or direction.
When we’re feeling lost, sometimes we look for a sign from a higher power.
Whether you’re looking for guidance in life or a specific answer to a niggling question, Angel cards are a great way to access this special advice quickly and easily.
In a similar way to Angel cards, a tarot reading can help spiritually guide you toward the answers you are looking for.
But what makes tarot readings extra special is that they are more complex, with hidden messages that can help open your mind even further.
It’s advisable to go to a professional tarot reader to have your reading done to ensure the best experience.
You don’t have to be big into spirituality to reap the rewards of Ayurveda.
This ancient medical system comes from India, and takes a natural, holistic approach to health. ‘Ayurveda’ means ‘science of life’ in Sanskrit, and the system aims to heal the entire body, working to fix any mental or physical imbalances that manifest in various ailments and symptoms.
Ayurveda works to restore imbalance and heal the body from within, through Ayurvedic products and medicines – usually derived from plants – as well as diet, lifestyle, and exercise.
As we age, our bodies become more susceptible to illness and injury.
Midlife is usually a time when we start increasing our pharmaceutical intake.
But in a lot of cases, a more holistic and natural approach to our health is the answer, rather than taking drugs to mask or artificially alleviate our issues.
Therefore, Ayurveda is a fantastic system to research and adopt in middle age to ensure a more prosperous, healthier, happier, and longer life.
